Day 10 of my Writing Challenge

Prompt:  You run a newspaper company, and have to decide which paper to run.

Blurb:

Two stories from two different viewpoints, one will be praised by those running all other media network outlets, and the other will be praised by the rebellion. The truth will set us free, right, but the fact will also hurt so many others.

Day 9 of my Writing Challenge

Prompt: You’ve just been hired on at your dream job, but all isn’t what it seems.

Blurb:

“Sara, did you hear what I said?” That was my cubicle partner asking yet another question as if she wasn’t in the same meeting as I, she sat there scribbling every note down possible as our manager talked about our monthly quotas.

I first started a year ago, within that time the main glass doors had become a swinging door, one day a new employee would walk in and maybe a month later that employee would walk out. With the number of turnovers we have, I am surprised no one has come to investigate. The CEO couldn’t keep a secretary for nothing, even with an entire floor dedicated to lower leveled staff to do all of the back-breaking paperwork, the secretaries still seemed to be overrun with work. Either quitting or getting fired they all seemed to only last a month.

Snapping back to the present, I saw Sara staring at me while my phone rang. I quickly went to my phone not knowing how long my phone had been ringing while I was blocking out Sara’s questions.

“This is Liz, how may I help you?” I pause as the voice on the other end breaks through, a transfer, a transfer has come requesting that I be moved from the staffing floor to the executive floor as the secretary.

Thanks for stopping by for another day of my writing challenge, until next time Read THS!

Day 8 of my Writing Challenge

Prompt: You discover a person is living in your attack.

Blurb:

Thud.

There goes that bump on the night. I swear every time I settle in for the night my house specifically my attic comes to life.

Every night without fail something is falling or tap dancing on my ceiling. And every morning when I go up to check there’s a box knocked over, nothing more, nothing less.

Tonight I refuse to be woken up repeatedly to find one single box turned over for no reason.

Jumping out of bed, I grab my metal bat that sits beside my bed, for security purposes, and walk into the bedroom near the front of the house. Max follows me into the bedroom tail wagging and mouth open, some guard dog he is.

I open the closet door that has yet another door leading to the attic. Slowly turning the knob, I usher max in first. Max being the friendly dog he is goes prancing into the attic as happy as ever and stops right in the middle of the room. Tail still wagging and his head angled up, Max appears to be excited by the empty space. I follow Max Into the room, “What are you doing max?” I believe I’ve raised a defective dog, happy about an empty space and doesn’t acknowledge his best friend.

Thanks for joining me for day 8 of my writing challenge. Until next time, Read THS!

Day 7 of my Writing Challenge

Prompt:  You are a band teacher watching over your students at the quarterly fundraising car wash.

Blurb:

Glancing at my watch, I realize it has only been 3hrs since the car wash began. Luckily there are only 3 more hours to go. Sure this is for a good cause, we need the money to fund some of our band trips and the school district isn’t going to pay for us.

This Texas heat is going to kill someone. Walking back out of the shade of the pavilion I wave the next car forward.

“Hi, did you have a pre-purchased car was a ticket, or did you want to make a $5 donation?”

“I don’t have anything smaller than a $100, do you have change?”

“I have to catch myself from staring and the handsome man, surely he doesn’t believe a High School band car wash has hundreds of dollars in the till to make adequate change for customers with $100.

Day 6 of Writing Challenge

Prompt:  You check your bank account and find $300,000 extra dollars has been deposited.

Blurb:

I roll over and hit my snooze button on my phone. Glancing at my phone, I see that it’s 7:00am, just enough time to pay my bills before work.

Opening my Bank of America mobile app, I pause when I see my balance, $300,873.23 sitting in my account. Shocked I log out and log back in once again the numbers are still there, $300,873.23 in bold black staring back at me.

Noting the time and knowing the branch doesn’t open for another hour and thirty minutes I close out the app and get ready for work. I know that amount isn’t right well the $873.23 is undoubtedly mine, but the remaining amount is impossible. Unless I somehow won a jackpot overnight and they got my banking account information and decided to go ahead and advance my winning without taxes than I’m all in.

Thanks for stopping by for the sixth day of my writing challenge, please comment your thoughts on the prompt see you all next time. Until then, Read THS!

Day 5 of Writing Challenge

Prompt: He found your journal on the train.

Blurb –

Her – “Oh no, where is it?” I search through my bag looking for my pocket-sized royal blue journal. I can not afford to lose it, that journal has been my only form and function of relaxation.

Finally, becoming aggrivated I dumped the contents of my messenger bag out on my bed. Spreading everything out flat so that I can see every piece of lint, crumb, and pencil my bag contained. Maybe I just left it at work in my desk, no one will see it in my drawer but the thought of my favorite journal, as of now, being out of reach makes me want to flip through its pages even more.

Him – Caught in mid-thought the train pulls into the station, as I go to step onto the hovering object my phone buzzes in my pocket. Glancing down, I opened my office email reading through yet another revision of the Clarkson deal. I glanced up a second to pick out a seat in the nearly deserted car returning my gaze to my phone. I attempted to sit down in the seat closest to me. Before I am able to partially relax I notice the hard edge of something underneath me. Scooting over to the empty seat beside me I see a small royal blue hardcover journal laying there.

Glancing around and seeing no one looking for the book, I picked it up to take a peek inside. Opening to the first page, I found little drawings. Some covering the whole page, some thumb sized, and others partially sketched out. Beautiful, every last line seemed to have a purpose, a continuously elongated purpose.

What do you think, what would you do if your prized journal was one day missing? Make sure to stop and Read THS.

Day 4 of Writing Challenge

Prompt:  Describe a wedding from three different points of view.

Blurb –

Lily: Lily stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her curly hair was pulled up and out of her face in a cute updo. Today is the day, my big day the day that is supposed to be my happiest ever in the history of Lily Michales. But, I felt so dull, my dress was gorgeous, my make-up amazing, and my hair pulled in all the right ways, but I didn’t feel present.

Groom: Finishing up my last pool game, I take my stick and lean it against the bar. I need another shot before its time to go downstairs. I don’t know why but I am suddenly nervous, not nervous to get married, Lily is fantastic, but what if this whole marriage thing ruins our relationship? People are always claiming how marriage destroys relationships, somehow people change, but I want us to work, I know we can get through it all.

Stranger: Well, I have hit my all-time low, it’s just turned 5, and I’m already three drinks in at one of the bars downtown. Closing out my tab I walked out into the fresh air, the smell of autumn hitting my nostrils as I tried to clear my mind. Without realizing it, I began to walk across the street, where a large park stretched out with winding paths entwining within the trees. Taking one of the tracks, I let my mind wander back to that day 5 years ago. As I continued to replay days over and over again in my mind, I came across a bench being occupied by someone wearing a wedding dress, and in tears. “Hey, are you okay?”

Thanks for keeping up with my writing challenge, make sure to stop by and continue to Read THS.

Day 3 of Writing Challenge

Prompt: Write a paragraph where a character apologizes without using the words ‘apologize,’ ‘regret,’ or ‘sorry.’

Blurb –

I would like to say that I’m typing this to ask for your forgiveness, but I know that I do not deserve such a thing. I must confess that I will still do everything needed to keep you safe, with or without your consent. I do not wish to retract my actions, your life is the most important thing to me, and I would do everything again the exact same. You may think me a monster, and that I am when it comes to you. Ha. It seems as though I have compounded this message to purge myself of my sins and offer you the glimpse into my mind you have wished to see.

Goodbye, my Sweet.

Thanks for stopping by, be sure to Read THS.

Day 2 of Writing Challenge

Prompt:  It’s raining outside and a knocking sound comes from your front door, you open the door to find Death beckoning you forward.

Blurb –

Well this day keeps getting worse, I think while I’m staring death in the face, or so he calls himself. Death is tall, around 6ft or so, which is a perfect height for my 5ft 4in frame. His hair, which is pitch black is shaved down just enough to show off the wave pattern his hair makes. His chocolate skin is any woman’s chocolate fantasy with equally milk chocolate eyes, I know I could get lost in those eyes forever.

I’m sure you’re all wondering how I’ve gotten myself in this situation with Death staring me in the face all six feet of him.

Thanks for joining me today for the second day of my writing challenge, feel free to share. Until next time, Read THS!

Day 1 of Writing Challenge

Prompt:  You wake up one day to someone calling your name, you open your eyes to find your dog/cat speaking.

Blurb –

“Cydney, Cydney.” I thought it was odd that my dream guy suddenly began whispering my name in the middle of our conversation.

“Cydney…Cydney.” There it was again one second tall, dark, and handsome is complimenting me, the next he’s licking my face, this is not normal.

Opening my eyes, I see my dog Jax starring back at me. I leaned over to pat his head and rub his ears greeting him since he found this was the perfect moment to wake e up.

“Thanks for the wake-up call Jax, you seem to always wake me up at the worst times.”

“You were going to be late,” I stare down at Jax confused by where that comment came from, “Jax?”

Thanks for checking out the first day of my short story writing challenge, feel free to post your thoughts. Until next time readers, be sure to Read THS!

Pennies Review

Pennies (Book #1 of the Dollar Series) by Pepper Winters

Published: July 2016 Genre: Romance/Mystery

E-book: 300 pages

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Amazon        Barnes & Noble       Kobo

Where do I begin? There are so many things I could say, but I refuse to spoil the book for you. Pepper Winters is known as the Queen of Darkness, every book I have read by her has taken me on a emotional roller coaster and still I continue to read.

Pennies is about a girl that is stolen, stolen from the life she knows and dragged to a world that is not at all pretty. She becomes a slave, a slave to a man that takes pleasure in doing the unthinkable. She suffers this ill fate for some time, at moments wishing things would just be over with, and yet she holds out until the day Elder Prest enters her life. Both Pim and Elder share similar qualities they are stubborn, strong, intelligent, and caring but the obstacle that keeps them apart are their issues. They are two broken souls with traumatizing pasts and a questioning future.

This first book is set-up perfectly, it is a show burner romance that is not at all romantic. While reading, the events that take place are so vivid that you believe you have lived through them yourself. The writing rakes you into the book where you can clearly see everything act out in front of your eyes. If you enjoy suspense, romance, action, and thrillers with a dark side I definitely recommend this read.
